Prose and Motion

prose-and-motionA new genre of physics-word-game! Not half as silly as it sounds, give this thoughtful and laid back game a go. Rearrange the letters to form a word. Try to find the perfect word for each level’s particular prose.

Update: A few people have been asking what the music is for this game. There are actually three tracks that get seamlessly blended mid-game. It starts mellow, then ramps it up a bit, then ends melancholy. The idea is to shuffle you through various moods reflected in the levels, but at a mostly unconscious level.

Anyway, the music was purchased from the excellent sounddogs.com. Unfortunately the licensing agreement with them means I can’t make them available for download. They’re rather expensive to download just for your own enjoyment too – they’re intended for inclusion in a project like a game or TV production. Anyway, the preview IDs (you can search for these on the site) for the music pieces at Sounddogs are:

1: 729807

2: 405637

3: 559477

First off, fantastic game. A puzzle game with meaning, if an obscure one. Below is what I thought of while playing. SPOILERS — I use the solutions to each level in order in this “review.”

My god. …It’s a marriage. A failing relationship. The music follows the mood of courtship and beyond…

Before you enter a serious relationship, life is EASY. You get together with someone you care about, and shortly learn life’s RULES. The two of you feel SUPER; live with an UPBEAT mood. The relationship deepens — with his gentle CARESS and love, you ELATE. The two of you are connected, you learn so much about each other and become so ASTUTE you could finish each other’s sentences. Over the SPAN of time, you find yourself begin to ASSUME things about your relationship. Eventually, you both ACCEPT the idea of marriage. And as with most married couples, you find him seeming to IGNORE you. The two of you become SEDATE in your lives’ positions. You feel SECURE if you follow the patterns that had become HABIT. The two of you are on a downward SLOPE that neither tries to climb. You are VEXED by his actions — he seems to want to hurt you. You fight: an emotional BATTLE that goes unsettled. You think what he said in the couple’s sapt was spoken with INTENT. You start to think he’s lying to you, using a clever RUSE to keep you from seeing his adulterous ways. You think your love was WASTEd on someone like him. Your paranoia makes you WATCH him closely, keeping him TIGHT in the bounds of the marriage. He struggles to escape a controlling person, which by this point is you. Your marriage and hearts are BROKEN. You DECIDE you want to sperate, but he doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong. You feel contained by his ignorance. You want to ESCAPE. The divorce goes through, the both of you deeply hurt by each other’s actions. You try to begin again, but are unable to function without him. Your life lies around you in pieces, scattered DEBRIS.

    Everything ends.

JDamien, thanks for taking the time to post your interpretation. Since the game’s release I have been wondering if anyone noticed there was a deeper meaning to the game beyond some fun puzzling. I haven’t seen anyone even suggest it in any other comments on the web. I don’t mind if most players don’t ‘get it’. I deliberately designed in plenty of other ways to enjoy the game. It’d be sad if nobody at all did, however!
