Hemi Monitor

Friday, July 29th, 2022

This Quest 2 app was built to aid filming for dome theaters for Shadow Industries. The cameras and lenses are really quite specialised, and it’s tricky to tell whether you’re actually filming usable footage. This VR app helps with the whole process with customisable camera/lens configs, configurable domes and live feed via NDI. It’s designed to be used in remote locations where you don’t have the usual luxuries such as internet and electricity, other than the typical camera batteries etc that a film crew normally carries.

Contact Luke at Shadow Industries via their website if this is a tool you need on your film set.

Hanna in a Choppa 3

Thursday, September 2nd, 2021

Take flight in the latest installment of the hugely popular Hanna in a Choppa series of games. This time, in fabulous 3D VR on the Rift and Quest, rather than crappy old 2D Flash. Guide Hanna through 10 bonkers levels each with hidden secrets and achievements. Train your pet elephant Stompy, steal honey from pesky bees, humiliate upgraded OXOBot at his own game, and of course The Button makes a spectacular return.

The Eastern Edge

Wednesday, June 10th, 2020

THE EASTERN EDGE – THE FEVER-DREAM SURVIVAL-SHOOTER WHERE YOU PANIC-LOAD EVERY ROUND WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, BECAUSE DEATH IS ONLY EVER A FUMBLED BULLET AWAY.

Test your nerves and your gun skills without all the abstractions of the modern FPS – no auto-reloads, power-ups or recharging health bars.

This is a VR game exclusive to the Oculus Rift and Rift S that I worked on as the main developer with the incredible team at Shadow Industries.

Out now, you can buy The Eastern Edge on the Oculus Store here, and see the official website here.

PENNZOIL JEEP BAJA VR

Saturday, September 16th, 2017

Push the limits of performance in the desolate beauty of Baja, Mexico, and find out what it takes to dominate the desert.

Pennzoil Jeep Baja is high octane VR experience developed from the ground up to showcase the unique performance of the Jeep Trailcat and Pennzoil Platinum.

I worked with the fantastic team at Shadow Industries on this wonderful project that included integration with a physical simulator. It was a beast of a machine, simulating the beastly 707bhp Trailcat. The goal was to make the player feel like they were wrestling with a tiger!

Unfortunately, unless you catch the exhibit at an event, you can’t play it. The best I can do is show you a 3 minute trailer made for the website.

W.A.V.E

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

W.A.V.E robots are sent out to explore strange new lands, far from home. When they arrive, they connect via virtual reality to a human helper. You are that human!

First person VR is amazing, but it’s not the only thing you can do with a Rift. This game explores a 3rd person platformer using the touch controller for movement and aiming.

  • – Designed for (mostly) seated play.
  • – Requires an Oculus Rift with a single Touch controller.
  • – Adapts for left or right handers.
    • (Press the A or X button to choose in-game)
  • – Graphics mostly created in virtual reality, using SculptrVR.

Built for the Global Games Jame 2017, mostly just by me, in under 48 hours. The main robot and enemy models are by the amazing Aaron Hicks.

If you have the hardware, download to play for free!

You can see the original GGJ entry here.

Shell Fire VR

Sunday, July 10th, 2016

Learn about Shell’s Helix Ultra product with this VR experience. If you can catch it at an exhibition, you’re sure to enjoy the spectacular wild ride around a construction yard in a red SUV.

Built with the amazing guys at Shadow Industries. We made three of these chairs for Shell to use at exhibitions around the world. They had to be rugged, easy to set up and easy to use for inexperienced show staff, and the public users they were guiding through the experience.

This project was built to wow the crowds at trade shows and racing events, but is also available publicly for Gear VR and Oculus Rift. I worked on upgrading the existing app by Shadow Industries for multi-platform public release.

Shell Helix Ultra VR

Saturday, February 20th, 2016

2016-02-16 12.41.33Learn about Shell Helix motor oil with this virtual reality experience built into dedicated physical chair units intended for use at trade shows and racing events. You will be transported to a lab and shown various experiments showing off the performance of Shell Helix Ultra. You can interact with some of the experiments via a built in Leap Motion sensor that places your hands into the virtual world you are experiencing.

I worked with Shadow Industries on a major upgrade of the existing app to bring it up to date with the latest Oculus Rift drivers, and to add Chinese localisations to the system. I also worked on the physical chair units, fitting the electronics and preparing them for delivery to the client.

Due to the nature of this project, there is no easily available public demonstration of the experience. Maybe you’ll be able to catch it at a racing event or trade show.
